Zizzi Risotto Pesce review

Whenever I see that a restaurant has a seafood risotto available I know I don't even need to bother reading the rest of the menu. Being both a lover of risotto and practically any form of fish I am almost guaranteed to love it. However I have had some amazing variations of this dish and so my expectations are pretty high and I decided to see if Zizzi's risotto pesce with king prawns, muscles, squid and chilli in a white wine and tomato sauce would fulfil my hopes.

The dish came and I was more than happy with the portion size. In all honesty it was pretty cold but because I was starving I couldn't be bothered to make a fuss and wait for it to be heated up. This picture was taken once I had removed the muscles from their shells and it looked pretty appetising. The first thing that i discovered is when this dish states that it contains chilli, take notice! I thought this would be pretty mild but it was strong and therefore this risotto had one heck of a kick. The seafood was all cooked perfectly as was the rice meaning that it was soft and had just the right amount of chew. The flavour of the sauce however was pretty bland but it had a slight bitterness which I can only imagine is due to the white wine. This slight bitterness paired with the heat of the chilli and temperature of the dish meant that I didn't actually enjoy this meal very much. It wasn't awful but I expected to enjoy it a lot more than I did and I highly doubt that I would order it again. I personally feel that Zizzi's menu has some much better alternatives to this risotto and in all honesty, I left the restaurant feeling pretty disappointed which is a feeling that I rarely get after visiting Zizzi's.
