Carrot cake is without a doubt one of my favourite cakes. I love the cream cheese frosting against the rich flavours of the dense sponge. My go-to for carrot cake is always Costa but I decided to go out on a limb and try this take on carrot cake from Caffe Nero. As the name states it contains a fair amount of raisons and comes in a loaf form with a thin layer of frosting on top.
There weren't any nuts throughout this cake like there are in many carrot cakes and the sponge was much lighter than most. The cake was quite small but maintained the spicy taste that you expect from carrot cake. The cream cheese frosting was very firm but still tasted deliciously buttery. It was almost yogurt-y and not as rich as I am used to but it did make it a lot easier to eat and seemed less filling. I did enjoy this cake an would have it again but it seemed like a slight alternative to carrot cake and doesn't compare to the heavy, fruity and luxurious carrot cakes you can get in most cafe's. I can imagine that this cake would be good for anyone who finds most carrot cakes too rich but still enjoy the slight spicy flavours against the sweet and creamy frosting.
