McDonalds UK Sugar Donut review

Having recently been impressed with both Krispy Kreme's and Greggs range of donuts, I decided that I needed to compare this offering from McDonalds when I was passing the counter. This was a ring shaped donut with a coating of sugar and the bag that it came in had the date and time that it was baked on so I knew that it was fresh.

I took it out if the bag and was impressed with the look and texture. There was a fair coating of sugar crystals and when I pressed into it there was an appropriate amount of "squidginess" that made me think that this was going to be soft and moist.

I took my first bite and hate to admit that I was actually quite disappointed. It wasn't unpleasant in the slightest and the flavour was sweet and I could detect some vanilla its just that this had much more of a cake texture than a donut. Not that cake is a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination, it's just that I was expecting a squidgy donut with a slightly "crispy" outer layer, whereas this just tasted like a pretty decent sugar coated cake. Once I was used to the texture I enjoyed it a bit more and it would be fine if you wanted something sweet ion the go but in my honest opinion, this just doesn't compare to some of the other donuts on the market.
